Terrified and Grateful

We had a full weekend with going to the temple on Saturday but it was a very nice weekend. We wanted to get picture while we were there but it was just too rainy and yucky. However, Sunday was BEAUTIFUL and we got pictures outside after church while we were watching some friends' of ours kids and then some at home. Sunday also brought the biggest scare of our lives, thus far, as well. We had friends over for dinner and the kiddos went out to use sidewalk chalk, being supervised. All the sudden it was brought the the realization that Maddie was no where! I heard, "Shannon, get my shoes, I don't no where Maddie is!" I got the shoes, not quite getting what was going on, took them to Mike and then it sunk in and my heart went to my stomach. I ran to the back door looking around, panicking, looking across the street at the park...nothing. Then Mike runs back there as well, looking at the park, then bolts. Maddie was at the park but in a tunnel that I couldn't see. I dash across the yard as well. I don't know that I have ever seen Mike hold her so close or tightly. I didn't really know how to react, I was grateful that she was safe, still terrified and not knowing what to do with her to teach her. My next thought was to put her to bed-I couldn't really think quite straight. I took her up stairs and just held her and tried to explain things to her. I think she could feel how scared I was because she just kept looking at me and then hugging me. We did that for a good 5-10 minutes then went downstairs...we still had company. It wasn't until after they left and things had settled down that the emotion part hit and I just cried, doing the "What if..." thing. She stayed up late with us last night as we soaked in the gratitude of having her in our lives. I write "I" quite a bit but poor Mike, he didn't know what to do or think either. We have a lake across the street in front of our house and then the park across the street behind our house-he wasn't sure where to go first. He talked with her later too. He woke up in the middle of the night and did the "What if..." thing as well and so he is quite tired today. Funny thing is he kept telling me not to do that; it is too hard not to. So, all is well, and how incredibly grateful we are to our Heavenly Father for keeping our baby safe! We hope to have a great week this week though and enjoy this beautiful weather!

Mike knows what to do-- get out there and know your neighbors and tell them if they EVER see her out by herself, call you!! Right, Mikey?!? and P.S. there's a house for sell just around the corner from me, and I have a swingset in my backyard-- so you would know where she is!

How scary! Nothing like a heart-attack for both of you. So glad she is safe and that all turned out well. I lost Donovan at a DI when he was Maddie's age and was convinced someone took off with him-most terrifying thing EVER! Hope you are feeling more calm today. You really are the best mom & don't you forget it! :)

What a little Houdini she is :) So sorry you all had that scare! We have had a few of those ourselves-more to come I am sure. Thats why I dye my hair!!! It really feels like it takes years off your life. I am so glad she is A-OK and hope your feeling better too. You guys are great parents she's lucky to have you all teaching her.
